The person at the workbench

About

I’m Julien, an AI engineer in Montreal. I work on the system around the model.

I lead software delivery at Compass Data, a data and AI company in Montreal. In practice, that means listening to what someone is trying to do, helping shape the idea, building the system with a team, and making sure the person who asked for it can follow along.

My path started with small Python scripts and web scrapers, then moved through software engineering, data engineering, and AI engineering. I studied Computer Science and Biology at McGill, and went on to Applied Data Science at the University of Michigan.

I design context, tools, boundaries, checks, memory, loops, and the points where a person stays in control. I call this agentic engineering: harness engineering, context engineering, loop engineering.

Outside work, I build my own computers, read a lot, and follow technology as a part of culture rather than a separate world. I want to make tools that give people more understanding and room to act.

How work moves

intentcontextplanactverifyshippedfailed check → repair → verify again

Work moves forward. A failed check goes back.

In this illustration, one in four new items fails its first check. It returns to act, gets repaired, and is checked again.
